O pior é que eu presenciei algumas das ocorrências relatadas como o ataque do PCC em São Paulo no ano passado, a crise no setor aéreo e o acidente com o avião da TAM que não deixou nenhum sobrevivente.

A dispute is ongoing between the government and air-traffic workers, which has lead to numerous strikes and demonstrations over the last months. In addition to frequent technical problems, this has caused severe travel disruptions in the Brazilian airspace. Consequently, Canadians should remain vigilant and expect flight delays, especially for flights to or from airports in the cities of Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and São Paulo, and during periods of increased demand for domestic air travel. The situation may also affect ease of movement in the vicinity and inside major airports, as well as the availability of nearby hotel accommodations, especially in São Paulo.
Several accidents involving domestic Brazilian airlines have occurred recently, including the crash of a TAM plane at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo on July 17, 2007. Until further notice, the main runway at Congonhas Airport will be closed during rainy weather. As a result, flights to and from São Paulo and other cities throughout Brazil could be delayed, cancelled or redirected. Before deciding to undertake domestic air travel in Brazil, Canadians should carefully evaluate implications for their safety, contact airlines for up-to-date information on flight alterations and other issues and modify their travel plans accordingly.
Serious crime, often involving violence, is high in a number of urban centres, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, Recife, and Salvador. Robberies involving tourists, some violent, have occurred in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and along the southern coastal beaches, even during the day. If possible, avoid beaches with poor visibility from the sidewalk and keep to beach areas where lifeguards are present. In Rio de Janeiro, areas outside of the south side (Zona Sur) should be avoided. Be vigilant in areas surrounding the Rodoviaria (bus station).

In November 2005, drug dealers invaded a city bus in the favela da Rocinha and set it on fire with passengers still inside. Four passengers died, and many more were injured.

Como você mesma diz é triste mas não há exagero algum. Ontem mesmo no programa THE HOUR ( o meu favorito aqui no Canadá - passa na CBC todo dia às 8 da noite)na abertura em que o apresentador faz um clipping das notícias no mundo estava lá o triste destaque para o Rio de Janeiro que esta semana que passou testemunhou mas um violento tiroteio entre polícia e bandidos resultando na morte de 12 pessoas (entre elas uma criança de 4 anos). O título do anúncio lia - War in Rio e o apresentador finalizou - "Rio de Janeiro is one of the most violent cities in the world".
Sad but true. Não dá para condenar orgãos oficiais em alertar turistas quanto às realidades do mundo.

Não é pq viemos parea cá que o Brasil virou santo. Os problemas continuam, a violencia não desapacereu e sim, isso é notícia internacional!!! Eu sou a favor que eles avisem os menos informados da nossa realidade, pq assim todos chegam preparados e sabendo o que vem pela frente. Nosso Brasil é ótimo, mas tá longe de ser perfeito.
Detalhe que o episódio que eles citam no final da reportagem não ocorreu na favela da Rocinha, e sim na Penha, bairro residencial da Zona Norte... não foi nem dentro da favela, foi numa rua bastante movimentada, acesso da Penha a bairros como Vila da Penha, Irajá, Vicente de Carvalho, Madureira... trabalhei com uma moça que desceu desse exato ônibus no ponto aonde os bandidos entraram... essa aí nasceu de novo!
